How Many Days is Eid?

▪️Question:
There are some people who extend the days of Eid. Is this extension correct?

▫️Answer:
Shaikh Uthaymeen رحمه الله تعالى:

• The first day is Eid, and there is no problem with this. The second and third day is Eid also, this is due to the saying of the Messenger when he heard the two small girls singing. He said: Leave these two O’ Abu Bakr, for verily these are the days of Eid.(1)

The words (أيّام) days are plural, and the least plural can be (in Arabic language) is three. So there is no problem that the people make all three days Eid, except in one affair and it is fasting, because fasting the second and third of the month Shawwal is prohibited like Eid; therefore, this is not permissible. As for Dhul-Hijjah, then it is known that the days of Tashreeq can not be fasted. So when adding the three days (of tashreeq) to Eid, it will become four days (not permissible to fast). Perhaps what you want to (ask) is the happiness of the  people (on those days), so we say they’re three days in the two Eids – Eid Al-Adha and Eid Al-Fitr.

SEALING THE MONTH OF RAMADAN WITH SEEKING FORGIVENESS AND GIVING ZAKAT AL FITR

▪️Ibn Rajab رحمه الله said:

❝Seeking forgiveness is a seal for all righteous deeds. It seals the prayer, Hajj, Qiyyam al-Layl the night prayer, and it seals gatherings. Therefore, if it was a Remembrance of Allaah, then it is like putting a stamp of seal on it, and if there were mistakes and deficiencies, then it would be an expiation for it. Likewise, it is befitting to complete the month of Ramadan with seeking forgiveness.

▪️Umar bin AbdulAziz رحمه الله wrote to the different regions commanding them to complete Ramadan with seeking forgiveness and giving Zakat al-Fitr. Indeed, Zakat al-Fitr is purification for the fasting person from mistakes and evil deeds and seeking forgiveness patches that are torn from the fast due to mistakes and evil deeds.This is why some of the previous scholars said: ‘Indeed Zakat al-Fitr for the fasting person is like performing the two Sajdas for forgetfulness for the prayer.’

Umar bin AbdulAziz رحمه الله said in his book, say as your father Adam عليه السلام said:‎

«They said: “Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If You forgive us not, and bestow not upon us Your Mercy, we shall certainly be of the losers.”» [Al-A’raf: 23]

Say as Nuh [عليه سلام] said:‎

وَإِلَّا تَغْفِرْ لِي وَتَرْحَمْنِي أَكُنْ مِنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ﴾‏}

«And unless You forgive me and have Mercy on me, I would indeed be one of the losers.» [Hud:47]

Say as Musa [عليه سلام] said:‎

رَبِّ إِنِّي ظَلَمْتُ نَفْسِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي﴾‏}

«My Lord! Verily, I have wronged myself, so forgive me.» [Qasas: 16]

Say as Dhul-Noon [عليه سلام] said:

{سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنْتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ﴾‏

«Glorified [and Exalted] are You [above all that [evil] they associate with You]. Truly, I have been of the wrong-doers.» [al-Anbiyya: 87].❞

What is the ruling in modulating the Du’a in the Qunoot and elongating it?

In the Name of Allāh, the Entirely Gracious, the Exclusively Merciful

📩 Question:

The questioner asks: What is the ruling in modulating the Du’a in the Qunoot and elongating it?

📝 The answer:

Modulating the Du’a in the Qunoot is not from the Sunnah. Nothing has come from the Prophet (ﷺ) nor from any of his Companions whereby they used to modulate the Du’a in the Qunoot, so one should make Du’a with humility as Allah (عز وجل) states:
{ادْعُوا رَبَّكُمْ تَضَرُّعًا وَخُفْيَةً إِنَّهُ لا يُحِبُّ الْمُعْتَدِينَ}
“Call upon your Rabb humbly and secretly. Surely He does not like the transgressors.”

And elongation does not have any evidence in support of it. Now they have made it difficult upon the people, and the people become joyful with the elongation of the Du’a. It is lengthened roughly fifteen minutes or more, or thirty minutes or more, regardless if its during the Qunoot in Ramadhan or for the Nawazil (calamities). This action is not from the sunnah, the Prophet (ﷺ) did not do it and neither did the Companions. The Du’a should be done with a small number of words, as was the case with ‘Umar (رضي الله عنه) and other than him from the Companions. when they would do the Qunoot, they would do it with easy, short words.

And when the Prophet (ﷺ) did the Qunoot for the Nawazil, he also did so with light, easy words. So elongation is not from the sunnah, and many of our scholars warned us from this, such as Imam ibn Baaz, and Imam al-‘Uthaymeen, and Imam al-Waad’iy (رحمة الله عليهم)
